Celebrity Gorilla, Colo, Gets Her Own Book!

One of the most famous gorillas in the world now has her own biography! Colo, the first gorilla born in human care, now has her life chronicled in Colo’s Story: The Life of One Grand Gorilla by Columbus-local and award-winning author, Nancy Roe Pimm.
Director Emeritus “Jungle” Jack Hanna wrote the foreword for the book and explains, “The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium has a magnificent gorilla breeding program, thanks in part to Colo’s surprise arrival long ago. Her family has continued to grow, including the first twins ever to be born in a zoo. The zoo is a leader in integrating young gorillas into family groups and in developing a unique surrogacy program. The Columbus Zoo is proud to have one of the grandest gorilla family trees in the world—and Colo is at the heart of it all.”

“Touch the Heart to Teach the Mind”

That is the mission of the Columbus Zoo’s books.
The stories of special animals and programs at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium should be shared. And what better way than through children’s books? So, welcome to our site, where we will be featuring the books published by the Columbus Zoo, each one filled with photos, facts, and fun!
It’s all for a great cause, too. Part of the sales of each book will go to support animal conservation. Buy the books knowing that your children’s hearts and minds will be touched by some amazing stories, and your support is helping animals around the world.
